There are moments in the history of aviation that are poignant reminders of the mortality of man and the series of events that conspired to cause disaster. The tragic account that was preceded by Saudia Flight 163, a routine passenger flight turned ghastly tragedy, is still vivid within and outside aviation circles. It was August 19th 1980 that the world gasped in shock as the Lockheed L-1011 carrying Flight 163 exploded in a fireball of flames seconds from taking off, setting in motion a series of events which would forever change the fate of the 301 people on board.
