The Rebirth of Air Berlin: A New Chapter in Aviation History

The insolvent and bankrupt "Air Berlin" brand that was once so popular six years ago has been purchased by the owner of an aviation company, Marcos Rossello. Sundair boss Rossello, who is a genius, has reportedly bought the brand for around 120,000 euros.

Former market leader in the German airline industry and, yes, notorious for operating a gigantic web of routes to Mallorca, Air Berlin went bust in 2017, the irreparable moment in time for this cult-like "Mallorca-Shuttle." The acquisition of the trademark rights was through competitive bidding under the guarantee that these rights are active and available to deal with insolvency until all proceedings have been completed. While Rossello has dodged confirmation of any resurrection plans for the brand, he has mysteriously indicated that he has innovative plans in the pipeline. Rossello's own airline, Sundair, launched in 2016 and focuses on flying people to sunny holiday destinations like the perennially popular Mallorca. More recent news came in May 2023 with German tour operator Schauinsland buying a majority of Sundair, further contributing to the longevity and scope of the airline. Not only is this acquisition a potential milestone time for the Air Berlin brand but also for the dynamic reshaping of the airline industry, with long-time players like Rossello redefining horizons and possibilities for such long-established trademarks.
